Light Flip is a $299 flip phone with no internet, no social apps, no email: 5G, T9, replaceable battery, six colors. Joe Hollier (@joehollier1) co-founded Light Phone eleven years ago and has shipped three minimalist phones since. His co-founder Kaiwei Tang helped design the original Motorola Razr. Ships April 2027.

🔥 Our Take: The dumb phone category runs on motivation. You buy one, your attention improves for three weeks, then the camera is bad and the typing is slow and you go back to your iPhone. Joe Hollier has been building minimal phones for eleven years because he thinks the problem is not willpower, it is that none of the alternatives are actually good. Kaiwei Tang, his co-founder, designed the original Motorola Razr. He knows what a clamshell feels like when it is built right. $299 is the bet that people stay when the hardware is not the excuse.

Garmin CIRQA Smart Band is a fitness tracker with no screen and no required subscription: continuous heart rate, HRV, SpO2, skin temp, stress, and Body Battery, all checked through the Garmin Connect app. $199, ships July 24.

🔥 Our Take: Whoop and Oura are fundamentally subscription businesses. The hardware gets you in; the $30 or $6 a month is the product. Most of what they call coaching is just your own data sold back to you with a trend line. Garmin is betting there is a large audience that wants the sensors and not the ongoing relationship with a wellness app. The CIRQA has everything Whoop has: HRV, skin temp, Body Battery. It costs $199 once. There is an optional $6.99/month Connect+ tier if you want coaching. If you do not want coaching, you just do not pay it. That sounds obvious. Nobody else in the category did it.

Overflight shows you what's in your visible sky right now: point your phone at any aircraft and it tells you the flight, route, and aircraft type. 🔥 Our Take: There are people who cannot let a plane overhead go unidentified. Charlie Wood is one of them, and the thing he wanted did not exist: not a map of everything in the sky, just what is in his sky right now, pointed at specifically. He sold two companies before building this one for himself. The Apple TV version averages 30-minute sessions, which is what happens when a lookup tool becomes ambient. The Pro tier has a mode called "inbound interesting" that alerts you to incoming military aircraft. A feature like that only gets written by someone who actually uses the app.
