Millennials, get ready to go on a nostalgia trip. Remember the days when you’d whip out your Gameboy and boot up your latest favorite cartridge game? It could be Pokémon, Zelda, or Mario. A simpler time, a good time, right? 

If you’ve still got a fully functioning Gameboy, good for you. (I’m not jealous at all.) If, however, you don’t, don’t fret. You can still relive the good old days, and this time with a decidedly maker-esque twist. 

IndieHackers RPG game is a retro-inspired browser-based game that transports you back in time with a Pokémon style experience built around being a maker.

It uses AI to power its NPC dialogues and, in turn, craft its story. One where the ultimate goal is to help your little maker character reach 10k MRR. 

Fernando Pessagno, the maker behind it, is a longtime fan of classic RPG games, and this is his tribute to them.

Whilst being injured after playing football, Fernando was pondering how to pass the time. He started wondering what a retro game would play like if it was combined with modern tech such as ChatGPT and IndieHackers RPG was born.
