Why is Open Source the future?

Question

Few reasons people go Open Source are: To establish a new standard, to get high adoption rates, for feedback and so on...

However, I think that the reason Open source is the future is because it shifts the decision-making power from business leaders to community participants.

The big reason why developers like using open source is that they can get started easier and faster. Rather than needing to secure a budget and work with a proprietary vendor to access a product, open source projects are available to anyone. Imho, To quote the example of OpenAI & Microsoft. Not opting for open source with trends and tech or innovations leads to a concentrated pool of knowledge base that only favors the capitalistic mindset. Open source fuels a more democratic attitude and that's how we all grow - together.

So admittedly, I am a marketer for an open source cloud provider. But from my view point on this topic, one of the biggest obstacles I think standing in the way of open source is it's brand in the market place. The big public cloud providers (you know who) have done a good job establishing their solutions as the go-to solution. And they enormous advertising budgets and spend heavily on NFL games, etc. to keep that brand strength. In our discussions with companies, many don't even realize that incredibly large organizations like Target, Adobe, GE Healthcare and others build on open source OpenStack platform. Our team believes that as we simplify access into open source technologies, it will expand the number of users, and position it more  competitively in the market. OpenStack is an incredibly platform...we are just trying to make it easier for people to access it and experience it for themselves.
