Why couldn't slack kill emails?

First of all not endorsing or demoting anyone, as a founder in this space, I would like to know people's view on this.

In my POV, mainly I think it's because slack was focused on internal comms, because in a business, we not only have our internal comms, but also with external stake holders, which is mainly done via emails.
