What's the reason why making friends or networking apps don't take off or become popular?

When you look in the app store, there are thousands of apps focused on meeting people but none of them look appealing or genuine. Bumble recently started a stand alone app for making friends but I'm not sure if it's going to be successful. It's kind of ironic that we have a loneliness epidemic in this country but all the apps created for the purpose of making new friends make people even more cynical and depressed. It's already hard to make new friends as an adult because most people tend to stick with their own group and don't have any interest in making new ones or if they're on an app, they tend to be flaky, judgmental and have very little interest in meeting in person. I think we should have an app where people can join zoom like group sessions based on their interests. For example, if you're interested in discussing books and newsletters, you can join a live discussion group on zoom on the app or a slack channel with like minded people. Dating apps are terrible for people who are introverted or people who have social anxiety and if there's an app that caters to that specific group, it would be wonderful.
