Using design tokens?

Hey makers, There's been a lot of buzz around design tokens recently, and Figma has also just introduced variables - their native solution for managing tokens and themes. Have any of you tried it out? What did you think? We've already incorporated them (along with more of the latest Figma features) into Once UI: https://once-ui.com/ Plus also working on a guide for design tokens, to help designers get the foundations right.

I couldn't agree more that variables are the long-anticipated game-changer the Figma community has been waiting for. They're set to revolutionize the way we build on existing foundations, and their importance can't be overstated. Our ability to implement and roll out these cutting-edge features swiftly comes down to our foresight and preparedness. We had our fingers on the pulse, and we were ready for what was on the horizon. Our focus was on developing an intuitive, scalable token system that brings genuine value. That said, I feel that a common pitfall in our field is an excessive focus on the component aspect of design systems. It's all too easy to create a slew of variants, label the result a 'scalable' library, and call it a day. The reality, however, often tends to be a far cry from this. What we end up with is an unwieldy, bloated system that's challenging to maintain, and more often than not, it falls short in terms of documentation. Let's reframe our approach to design systems, focusing not just on quantity, but quality and sustainability. p.s. So excited about this guide @zsofia_k has mentioned in her original post! We've been working on this for quite some time, and I'm sure it will be a great resource for so many creatives struggling with the execution of token systems.
