In my opinion, ease of use and high quality customer services are two basic must haves for paid applications/ tools.

Generally I'm willing to pay for an app if it provides me with a service that I can't find for free elsewhere, or if it's a higher quality version of a service that I can find for free.

as simple as doing what I'm looking to do, and there is no alternative that is free or cheaper.
