Sub-Saharan Africa Leads in YoY Growth of Professional Certificate Enrollments. A2SV Hackathon

Hi all, this week, we're looking at 3 stories in the African tech talent ecosystem. 1. The 2023 Coursera Global Skills Report has highlighted Africa's growth in talent enrolling in Professional Certificates on the platform. According to the 2023 Global Skills Report, Sub-Saharan Africa has outpaced other regions such as Asia Pacific and North America in this rapid growth. 2. The Africa to Silicon Valley Hackathon This Africa-wide event is dedicated to Generative AI, bringing together innovative minds to shape the future. The hackathon comprises multiple stages, starting with informative Workshops on August 19-20, 2023. The Grand Finale on November 12-13, 2023, will witness the top 8 teams convening in Ethiopia for an all-expense-paid 2-day event. Here, they will compete for a substantial $30,000 USD prize pool. 3. Propel's journey to make the best of African tech talent available to startups. Propel, secured €2.5 million ($2.74 million) in seed investment in June to support its mission of building talent pipelines for communities in emerging markets, particularly in Africa. With offices in Germany, Portugal, and Lagos, the company aims to assist global companies in hiring remote talent from Africa and elsewhere while providing last-mile infrastructure for tech communities.
