When starting your company, how do you search for product designers? What is important to you when choosing a studio or agency to collaborate with? Where can you be found to discuss potential collaborations? I run a small design studio specializing in digital design, and I've been having difficulty finding new clients for product based design services.

I have the exact same problem, I just created and put out indieteamz.com for indie hackers, designers developers, marketers, sales and others to connect and build together. Have just deployed the MVP now. Aiming to build a budding space to build teams.

when searching for designers: 1. portfolio matters. showcases ability and style. 2. referrals: word of mouth still plays a huge role. 3. understanding of user psychology. not just aesthetics. 4. flexibility and adaptability. can they pivot when needed? 5. communication: this can't be overstated. for collaborations, i frequent: - local meetups/events - online forums (like this) - design-focused webinars maybe consider partnering with startups in accelerator programs or coworking spaces. all the best with your studio!

Portfolio with previous works is a absolute necessity. So share your designs on platforms like Dribbble and/or Behance and attract potential customers there. Try to reach out people (who needs your services) in different platforms and engage with them related to their needs or suggest ways to improve. And add your email/ contact details at the end so that interested customers can avail your services. Or create paid ads on Facebook or Instagram to promote your services, depending on your resources.
I'd say that X (Twitter) is a great place to connect with this industry. Have you tried it?

I'd say referrals and portfolio matter the most. For agencies I would also check review platforms such as clutch or designrush, and I will also do boolean research for reddit.
