PH with gamified DM soon.

I have a gamified DM idea. You can only direct message people whom you have supported. It will add points similar to YC news. The number of people you can DM equals the number of upvotes you have given, and DM will only be allowed to your followers or product makers whom you have supported. No new people. So, in one month, if you supported 100 products, then you can only DM 100 people. Then it depends on you how to use this balance with your followers or product makers you supported. The more you support, the more DM balance you get. After this, you will use your DM responsibly. If I check my DM (connect points), then I have 1900+ followers and 12k+ products supported. Then I have 12k connect points. Or we should add an "And" logical condition. Options: Connect points = Followers? Connect points = Supported? Which one is great? Let me add one more condition: DM will only be activated when you have a 100+ streak 😅. So, even if you have 10k followers with 10k DM points, you can't DM a single person if you lose your 100 streak. This gamified DM will be perfect for the PH community and for PH too; they will have more daily active users after this. Win-win?

Great Idea!

I like this idea! Only little hesitant about the last part about 10K. I understand how important it is but you know there are certain time or days when your condition cannot help you to continue that streak. It just gets a little unfair

Launching soon!
Someone said to me once. The only way to create connections between people is if there is a fundamental common interest. Social networks has to form out of that premise.

Launching soon!
@jiteshghanchi Its not a strong enough connector. If I don't genuinely care about your fundamental product. It will just lead to watering out my social connections. I would like to support everyone in the world of course. but I only have so much bandwidth. So I have to choose.

Terrific ideas! What does support mean ? For example, there's one account on PH that support ALL launches by upvoting. They are not adding meaningful support, such as a thoughtful comment or feedback. Not all support carries the same gravity and it should be recognized accordingly.
Share
@aris_nakos Supporting by providing valuable feedback or comments, validated by the maker or hunter. Therefore, if someone only comments 'congratulations for the launch,' it does not count as DM points.

@aris_nakos It's a great question. I agree that it's no easy to define which is good support.

@aris_nakos @jiteshghanchi could be easy to implement: you get a DM point if your contributions get some threshold of engagement (upvotes).

This is a cool idea . Definitely keep me posted on it Jitesh . Did you cast your vote today ? If not Rafa could use some love :)

This gamified DM idea sounds intriguing! It adds a fun twist to direct messaging and encourages supporting others in the community. The 100+ streak condition adds a challenging element. Can't wait to see how this boosts engagement on Product Hunt!

Fun idea Jitesh, but I'm not a big fan of equating votes with the number of allowed DMs. This would incentives people to blindly vote for products in order to increase the DMs they can send. Everyone voting for everything would ruin voting altogether. I don't think PH needs more activities. Instead, PH needs better quality activities.

Interesting idea, Jitesh! Using upvotes as a currency for DMs could incentivize users to engage more deeply with the community.

That's an interesting idea, and I believe Connect Points = Supported? will be a better idea.

@sidraref Imagine if we label it as 'supported'—the product of the day might get a whopping 10,000 upvotes because everyone would jump on the upvote train! 😅

@jiteshghanchi Ups I never thought about that, but yeah, that would also not be a feasible option, but then a mix of followers + supported + Kitty Points + hidden sauce(how supportive you have been to the community) may work.

Definitely. Love the idea.

oof, 100+? bit steep my dude. overall a great idea, but imo the threshold should be lower (maybe a month?)
