User > Market research for me. For market research you mainly need to know whether at a broad level the market is big/small and whether its growing, maturing or declining in terms of geography and demographics. There are many sources readily available for this. However, you need precision in your product design to ensure you capture that market. This can only happen through detailed user research. In fact, you will also get a lot of inputs about the market while doing your user research!

Both are crucial. Understanding your competitors and knowing your customers' needs are equally important. What do you think?

Both market research and user research play vital roles in understanding the needs and preferences of your target audience. While market research provides insights into broader industry trends, user research dives deep into understanding individual behaviors and motivations. Ultimately, a well-rounded approach that combines both types of research is key to developing successful products and services.
