Is it really important to build a community around your product?

Working in a community filled with fans and brand advocates could be an excellent way to get your product out there! The problem is, that everyone who has tried knows that the process takes a lot of work, planning, and creativity… Launching a new product is already quite challenging, and building a community in parallel seems like an ambitious move. How well do you think building a community around a product works? If you have already tried it, how did it go?

@imtiyaz922 I also like the idea. Nowadays it's hard to come up with a SaaS that is so disruptive that everyone want to chime in, so a community might be a way of compensating "being more of the same" at the eyes of potential customers. It wouldn't be the first time that someone signs up to a SaaS or buys a product only because of the vibe of their community :)
