In the PH community, what is meaningful discussion?

Nowadays. It seems like many Product Hunt discussions lack meaningful communication. Meaningful discussion(communication) has different criteria for everyone. I believe that meaningful discussion is based on mutual communication. The reasons for engaging in Product Hunt discussions may vary, such as finding like-minded people, gathering feedback, or building an audience. However, I believe that mutual communication (by leaving comments for each other) is at the core of the PH community. I hope to see more interactions on Product Hunt between the person who starts the discussion and those who respond to it on Product Hunt.

Yeah, discussion here is very surface level. I guess that's to be expected since everyone here is trying to hustle their own products. I kind of wonder if the PH leadership should think about moderating more, and also whether they should do threads with gated responses. So the high-value answers would get more views and maybe lead to more points/followers for those who are real visitors.

@aamir it'll be hard to have meaningful discussion without meaningful criticism. ProductHunt has *too much* empty praise. That's something I don't see too much on ProductHunt. And it makes sense, because we all want to be friends here and help each other. But if we want to truly grow as founders/makers we need to start showing some more tough love.

@aamir I completely agree with your opinion. Sometimes, it would be great if PH considers regulating the community, but I also agree that the criteria can be ambiguous. At least, what I hope for is a culture where the person who initiates the discussion engages with those who respond, rather than just mechanical discourse. It would be wonderful if PH could assess the quality of discussions based on this and rank them accordingly.

@aamir @between_team I agree. However, as you mentioned, I have a positive view of the culture of supporting each other here. I just have a negative stance towards mechanical posting of discussions without a response to their replying.

@charlie_lee1 I've noticed both of these things being discussed here. 1. There isn't much in the way of new or countering information in the discussions. 2. Most OPs don't seem to respond to comments, which makes these not really discussions at all. Meta discussions rarely seem to change anything on social platforms, but for what it's worth, I'm glad you pointed it out!

I certainly haven't been sitting here long enough to think that way, but for some reason I agree with you. I don't know why :)
