Be conscious of the fact that every employee has different needs and you need to adapt your strategy and tone accordingly. But most importantly, listen to what they have to say!

Be a good human.
I think that the main point is to talk with your colleagues and get feedback from their side, try to share your plans, and not hide some facts from your team, but instead - discuss them all together.
First, you have to be a bad manager, make tons of mistakes, improve your skills in real managing. Then, you have chance to became a good manager.
