How do you end your workday and call it a day?

I am curious about your end-of-the-workday routines. Do you review your day at the end or plan for the next day? Do you have any struggles disconnecting from work?

I really try to review the day and plan for the next. In reality, 50% of the time I'm scrambling to get out the door and pick up my kids on time, so often I fail to do so.

there's no better way for me than just shut down my lap and go to the gym before it gets too crowded :) smart planning is crucial so that you don't plan anything that doesn't fit into your workday.

A good question! I end my workday by checking my to-do lists. But there are always some unexpected things that need to be done. So, in order to finish the work, I have to work overtime. Some work then has to be done the next day.

I check my to-do list for the day. See if I managed to do all I wanted or if there's something to do the next day. I also try to plan for the next day. Sometimes I just finish that last thing I'm working on and close my lap๐Ÿ™ˆ Feeling like: I'm done!

I simply close the lid of my laptop and start thinking about the cup of coffee I'm gonna brew.

I always try to decide on a time when I call it a day. Helps me avoid the "just this" and "just that" moment that keep me working too long.l 15 minutes before I call it a day I always record a short video where I walk through the accomplishments and challenges I had during the day. Great to have a bit of reflection.

Closing my laptop and engaging in other activities that will keep my mind off work... at least for a while :)

Exciting question! I'd love to develop a ritual for that. ChatGPT suggests: Create a "closing ritual" - This could be something as simple as shutting down your computer, putting away your work materials, and setting a task list for the next day. This helps signal to your brain that it's time to transition from work to leisure mode. Take a walk or do some stretching - Physical activity can help clear your head and release tension from sitting at a desk all day. Reflect on your accomplishments - Take a few minutes to think about what you accomplished during the day. This can help you feel a sense of satisfaction and closure. Disconnect from work - Set boundaries by not checking work emails or responding to work-related messages after a certain time. Plan your next day - Take a few minutes to plan out your next day. This will help you feel more in control and prepared for the next day. Do something you enjoy - Engage in a hobby or activity that you enjoy to help you unwind and disconnect from work. Practice mindfulness - Take a few deep breaths and focus on the present moment. This can help clear your mind and reduce stress. Have a routine - Having a routine can help you to mentally and physically disconnect from work and relax.

The best end to a day is a clean cut off or a hand off point that I know I'll appreciate the next morning. The issue with that is sometimes you end up over working ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Once I have completed all the things that I listed in my to-do list, I usually rewind and get along with my nightly routine.

Before it was more difficult, but it would be an exercise class that I would attend, like yoga on the way home from the co-working. Now its having a little hungry mouth to feed and get to bed and spend quality time with. I wfh so I just close the office door. Sometimes I do have to work more later in the evening, but, its for genuine reasons as opposed to the need to do just one more thing.

I work till I feel I'm tired for the day, it depends as sometimes I'm too focussed and something else comes up. I try to keep things ready for the next day and plan what I'll be working on before calling it a day

unplug all my things and hit the hay

I still have a problem completely disconnecting. But contact sport is my best attempt.

I won't decide on any time for that. I will end the day when I'm tired. If I'm not tired, I will keep working on something.

Drink chamomile tea, sit down with a fiction book :)

I always take a moment to make sure I got my tasks done for the day, and to prioritize what I need to focus on the next day. Once that's done, I close out of all my work tabs and take a moment to drink some water and move my body to reset and focus on the rest of the day!
