In my opinion, listen to their needs, and lead with two considerations in mind: 1) Compassion 2) Solutions Empathize with their frustrations, and bring a compassionate solution.

I don't calm down a client. I let them vent. I smile. I am pleasant. I do not get emotional about business. I push the main points of the negotiation, listen, stay on track and let them yell in my face if they want. I'm not responsible for their bad behavior. I can only control my own actions. I cannot control my clients actions. I agree with Evan as well. Compassion. Solutions.
