How did you find your product market fit?

I am diving more into finding the proper and more narrow product market fit for my product Writings and I am curious to know about your experience so far. So to those that have already found the market fit for their products: What did you do before you found your market fit? How did you know you nailed a product market fit? What have you learned about creating a product and finding the proper fit for your target market? Curious for your answers!

For me product market fit means distribution + retention To have good distribution you need a place where you get a continuous source of traffic, this can be a link ranking good on Google or a comment on Reddit, something like that

Our first step was to talk to as many people we presumed to be our target audience and see if what we were building made any sense to them. Then, when we had some sort of an MVP, we worked on getting it in front of people. We're still looking for a definite PMF, but compared with some previous experiences - we knew we were onto something when people would show interest and then actually take action (signup, continue being active users, mentioning/recommending us on social media) Also, getting constructive feedback was a big plus - if people just say it's great but not for me that can sometimes just be a sign that they don't want to hurt the founder's feelings. When we started getting specific feedback from users (for example - it's really annoying that I accidentally delete things because there is no popup), that's when we knew we became a tool that they actually use and want to see improved.

It's so important to keep getting to hear explicit feedback from your customers. 1. What's working? 2. What's not working? 3. How do they describe your product and the problem you solve? That info is crucial to keep refining your product and messaging towards PMF.
