How did you develop book reading habit?

I used to spend hours to read book everyday. However, I let that habit slip due to some reasons. Now, as I attempt to revive the habit, I find it challenging to concentrate as effectively as I used to. Looking forward to hearing your tips on this! 😃

Started small, like a chapter a day. Made it part of my routine. Audiobooks helped too, multitasking while commuting.

@jenrodnyc2 Thanks for your suggestion :) "Started small", yeah, i'll start with this and get back to you after 1 week :D What do you mean by "multitasking while commuting"? It's like listening to an audio book while cleaning house?

Take little steps, and don't try to force books you think you should read but find little interest in. For me, that was a lot of the "self-help" type books. Your first step could simply be opening Amazon and browsing book descriptions until you find one that's compelling. Can't think of a genre? Think about what types of shows you tend to watch. Find something light if necessary. Your second step – which could be on a separate day – could be reading or listening a free preview of a couple of those books. Which ones really draw you in? Last, think about the format. Audiobooks are super convenient for those of us who need to start habits in conjunction with other activities. I listened to several books during the time I would spend cleaning the house, for example. Or, if they were books that were more related to business or self-improvement (which tend to be a bit long-winded), I would listen to the Blinkest version (short audio summary). Hope this helps! PS – I've been loving some business-related podcasts lately, such as Masters of Scale or the Y Combinator podcast. Check them out – very applicable to the Product Hunt world!

@bradenfloris Wow tks for your recommendation. "don't try to force books you think you should read but find little interest in. For me, that was a lot of the "self-help" type books." totally agree! that's one of mistakes I got before Where are you find audiobooks for now? I tried some apps but felt uncomfortable with AI voice :)

I log into Instagram only in the evenings. Now every evening before opening the app, I read at least one chapter of a book. Often it turns out to be more, because once you start, the interest arises and it's difficult to stop :)

This happened to me a lot, especially when I was at school and spent a lot of time reading but not by my own choice. To get back into reading, I started off with lighter books, a lot of them “silly” or fun. I read what I wanted to and what was easy for me so that I could get back into it. Not every book you read has to be a classic! Not everything you read has to be self-help! But if those are things you enjoy, you could choose those too!

@kctoaurn I developed my reading habit in school as well. I was pretty much an introvert and hence books was an escape from my boring school life which transformed into now one of the best habits that I have!

If you need accountability , I’ve been working on this habit app to help people build healthier habits, like cutting down on screen time, getting into regular runs, eating better, and reading. It’s like having a buddy to keep you on track. We even ask how committed you are, and if you slip up, you put in a bit of money to stay motivated. If this sounds good to you, feel free to try our app. We just launched! https://www.producthunt.com/post...
