Google: "We Have No Moat, And Neither Does OpenAI" ~ says leaked internal document at Google. You'd think data is the moat. What do you think will be the real moat in the future? What will eventually happen to startups building wrappers around OpenAI APIs?

Moats like network effects, brand and switching costs are still factors. Those moats could slow the potential loss of market share from large tech companies. But then again, AI's on an exponential trajectory, so who knows whether that'll just be a little speed bump before we see them lose significant market share. It's all happening at a crazy time in human history.

From reading the article, the argument is largely built on cheap fine-tuning of LLMs which could take open source models to match or outperform better models. I think it's still early to say, there is so much innovation happening right now. A few months ago you would have thought it is all gonna go to the large companies + OpenAI. Now it looks the opposite. I'd say wait and see but build anyway :-)
