Do you work in a different department than the one you graduated from?

A situation that I encounter a lot, especially in my environment, is to turn different sectors when I cannot find a job in the department they graduated from. I was wondering if you guys were around.

Graduated from pol-sci, got a job in IT & software development. It's been 25 years now, very happy since!

Did that all my life. Graduated in Civil Engineering. Did an MBA.
Then worked in Food processing, Media, IT, Software. Common thread across all of them - Project Management.
Never felt out of place. I have always felt that I am able to bring learnings from one into the other.
Definitely jumped around before ending up officially in Product Management.
Originally graduated majoring in Finance, but have found myself in Support, Pre-Sales, Customer Success, Business Analysis and Marketing along the way.
