Discord and any other platform that allows users to join multiple communities is just a waste of time. People will eventually mute your server because they already joined 10 or 20+ other servers. Unless your server is about useless Gen Z topics, you won't see too much engagement, but you can try.

@chris_sarca Discord is a cool tool and platform for community building. For making it you need to provide real value for the member. It's not only about Gen Z and gaming.

Yes, I do use discord. It definitely has a learning curve. Discord is probably the easiest way to foster a community around your product. By community, I mean it allows the users to interact with each other, unlike other social media platforms. A good 8 min long youtube video, should get you up to the speed.

I did used it in the past but dropped of because 90% of users have put servers on mute and they barely interact to newbies. I find reddit much better to for mass interactions.

Started using it to collaborate with friends and play games. Now we use it in our workplace at Dorik haha

You want to start by joining a server. Servers are a community of people focused on a topic. You can find active servers here https://top.gg/servers/tag/techn... When interacting on a server, make sure your privacy settings are on "scanning messages and photos from all users" to ensure your safety.
@tr1p3 Thanks, this is helpful. I was going through a similar experience - tried it a few times, didn't get a hang of it. Will try on of these servers now and see if it sticks

Discord is a great platform for communication. Some companies specifically create their servers in Discord. But I would say that this platform is more for gamers and ordinary people who want to talk. I think right now 80% of people use discord.

No, I don't use it. It's popular among gamers though.

I started using it when someone added me to a community at first it was a bit overwhelming but over time I understood. I would advise you to spend 20-30 minutes on the platform to understand and get used to it, start with one of two communities

For me start at Discord was easy, because I used Slack. It's pretty similar. You have threads, text channels, voice channels, can integrate some bots for meetings. My advice would be — project based learning. It's much easier to learn software if you have idea what you wanna build and what tasks it will solve eventually. For example, I won't learn Figma features randomly, just checking tutorials, I will come up with website idea and then I will learn. Same with Python, SQL, and even Discord. Wanna build a server for community? So firstly think about what tasks it will solve, for who, what it should have, rules, and more. You'll get it. Good luck with Discord.

Yes, I use Discord, and I can share how I got started and some advice. I initially joined Discord because a group of friends was using it for gaming and socializing. To get started, I created an account, customized my profile, and explored various servers and channels. It's essential to join servers that align with your interests or communities you want to be a part of. Don't be afraid to ask questions and engage in conversations; Discord is a friendly place, and people are usually happy to help. Explore the settings to personalize your experience, and consider using Discord on both mobile and desktop for convenience. Additionally, make sure to familiarize yourself with the Discord etiquette and rules of the servers you're in, as they can vary. Over time, you'll become more comfortable and find Discord a fantastic platform for connecting with others, whether for gaming, hobbies, or socializing.
