Do upvotes from new users count?

I saw in some cases a product with the most votes ranked second. Could it be that they have votes from new users?

Launching soon!
Upvotes count for most. But if there are lots of bot upvotes, they might be removed. Also votes from people with many kitty points count for more. I think.

@sentry_co I also noticed that. Upvotes from users with many kitty points count for more💯

@imlindsay how does it work? Does it count as two or more votes?

Yes, Product Hunt's algorithms are still unclear to me. I don't fully understand how they work. We're planning to launch in February. I'm currently studying the platform. Perhaps after the launch, I'll be able to figure it out and understand.

@alina_salavatova please share your findings after you find out Alina and good luck on your launch!

@alina_salavatova I think it all comes with experience. I would also recommend you to find some good courses on PH launches, you can find plenty of insight there.

Yes, upvotes from new users on platforms like Product Hunt generally count and contribute to the overall visibility and success of a product launch. Each upvote, regardless of the user's account age, indicates interest and can potentially boost your product's ranking and exposure on the platform.

Yes, that's a possibility. Product Hunt uses a complex algorithm that considers various factors beyond just the number of votes, such as the quality of engagement, discussions, and the overall activity generated by the product. While upvotes are crucial, the ranking also takes into account factors like comments, user interactions, and the uniqueness of the product. So, even if a product has the most votes, other aspects may influence its final ranking, including engagement from new users.

Sometimes, the value lies not just in the quantity but the diversity of support.
Lindsay Davis
@istiakahmad Interesting point. What do you mean by 'diversity'?
ISTIAK AHMAD
@imlindsay It's a positive metric when your appeal spans across diverse industries and niches, bringing together people with varied backgrounds and expertise. I hope this make sense to you. ( :

Votes from users who have been signed up for less than 7 days will not be counted in the rankings.

The ranking dynamics on Product Hunt can indeed be perplexing. It's not just about the number of upvotes; the platform's algorithm also takes into account the activity profile of the voters. While upvotes from new users are valuable, consistent engagement from established community members may have more influence on the ranking. This system helps to ensure that the rankings reflect genuine interest and engagement within the community, rather than being skewed by a sudden influx of new users. In your efforts to climb the ranks, consider not only promoting your product but also actively participating in the community.
