🎨 Dark mode or not? I need your feedback!

I'm working towards my ProductHunt launch and would like some design feedback. Currently only supporting light mode, I've been contemplating adding dark mode to my app. I quickly mocked up what that would look like. Is dark mode a must? Or is it a nice to have? General feedback on the light mode version would be greatly appreciated, too ❤️ Thanks! Brecht

Without seeing your app and going through the user interface and user experience it's hard to say. Dark-mode is definitely a nice-to-have but it shouldn't come at the cost or before core value and general usability. If an app is good and it "sticks" then I'll personally look for options like dark-mode but until then it's not something I'd consider as a user.

I think in general for your MVP either one should be ok. I think its nice to have once the product is more established and you want to spend money and resources to implement. If its a quick thing to add go ahead. Otherwise..when is the last time you went to a new app and said "ahh no dark mode?, no way I am using this!!! " Probably never, provide value within the app and fun stuff can come after

@iowitz I like to think it's a quick thing to implement. A concern I have then is that it'll add a certain amount of unavoidable work to each delivery. So in the end it could end up taking a lot of time. But you make a good point; I've never not used an app because it doesn't have dark mode. OTOH, I always do use it if it's there :-) I'm leaning towards staying on light mode for a bit longer

@webslash yes I was thinking of the same thing with my app www.blockbeat.io and I was so set on having a light mode but instead I said let me just get the product and features up and running first and once I have users and a working product I can even let users choose the color of their app and notifications etc.. checkout The Lean Startup (book)

Launching soon!
Real hackers launch dark-mode first. And then never launch light-mode 😬

As someone with an eye condition, dark mode definitely is the only way I can browse. I believe not offering it, might remove some userbase who is dealing with this condition

@tr1p3 That's super interesting. I'll keep that in mind; I definitely want my app (Tended.ai) to be as accessible & inclusive as possible. I'll probably implement it at some point. When that is is still a guess for me :)

dark mode for the win! it helps in longer retention and usage times of users as it's more comfortable on the eyes.

i think in general light mode is only good for apps where you spend a lot of money like airbnb, uber, clothing stores and dark mode is more for fun apps like socialmedias, or apps you use everyday so i dont know exactly what app you are bulding but it looks like socialmedia so definitly use darkmode
