Collaboration marketing. Yes or no?

Happy Monday! I'm working through my pre-launch checklist and today's topic: collaboration marketing. Do you think it's necessary to have those collaborations with other businesses in your niche? And I'm not talking about big, expensive campaigns with major brands. Let's keep it to what's realistic for startups. I'm trying to figure out if it's a good use of my time to do free collaborations. Does having your brand mentioned on the partner pages of other businesses actually help, even if we're not thinking about SEO? Do you have any success stories in collab marketing? I'd love to hear about it!

@maurizioisendoorn and I are looking into this as well at the moment, I definitely think it can be really beneficial especially when you partner up with people active in the same niche because you share the same customers. That said, I'd personally only do collaborations with social media posts, spending a lot of time on a partnership that only involves each other's name on a website might not be worth it.

@ruben_boonz yeah, social media post sounds like a better deal. But I'm thinking, what are the benefits for those partners? For example, if you just launched and you don't have that many followers? How do you pitch yourself in this scenario?

@sakozzy maybe you offer their audience a discount for your product, or you give them a profit share on the people they referred to you

I would say it is worth your time because it exposes your brand to more eyes, especially to your target audience that with a regular ppc may not quite be interested in the product (of-curse there are exceptions) and also it increases the authority of your bran which is extra point for companies that are new in the market (in the eyes of potential buyers)

@avital_trifsik yes, I agreee with you, but I would like to ask you the same question as I asked Ruben: what are the benefits for brands to partner with you if you just starting and don't have follower base?
Maurizio Isendoorn
You can find a complementary product to yours and partner up with that business so that you offer his product at a discount and vice versa. That makes your product more valuable + you get more customers. That's a win-win for sure, as long as the partner company delivers a good service/product

@sakozzy That’s good to hear, I often see Shopify Apps promote other useful apps inside their own app. I was also thinking doing something like that with Ringly. I’m working everyday on Ringly right now, and I want to launch it somewhere in May. If you want to be notified about the launch you can sign up at our waitlist or follow me here, because we’ll do the launch on Product Hunt. Waitlist is on the website btw.

Hey Domas, happy Monday to you too. Building partnerships within your niche can amplify your reach and credibility. Even without direct SEO benefits, being featured on partner pages can expose your brand to new audiences and foster trust.

@priyankamandal I love your point and the way you explained it. I used to have similar thoughts, though I also had my doubts and concerns about collaborations, but after all I think what you said about the reach and credibility is definitely and 100% right.

Haven’t done anything of the e sort myself, however it CANT hurt right? Since I can’t come up with any downsides (publicity is publicity - especially amongst target audience), I don’t see any reasons not to implement it when/where possible. I would not, however, drag things on and hold up the timeline to get collaborations in order — rather work on getting them in action on the side.

@weansard Yes I agree with you. The main question I was asking myself before this post was "what can I offer to my partners" as I don't have a social base or much traffic to offer
Domas Sakavickas
@stain I'm launching an app for Shopify store owners. So basically yes, my main goal is to target a specific audience. But the main question was what can I offer for brands that are already in the market. So after yesterday's discussion with hunters, we came up with the idea that the most logical way is to offer some extra value, like discounts or even commissions to every customer that came through my partners. Maybe from your experience you have some more ideas on what a small startup without follower base can offer to a bigger brands in the same niche?
Yes, as per your product wiss, you can collaborate with shopify development agencies. The prefect ICP as per my opinion.😅

@jiteshghanchi yep, after this discussion I can see that it's worth it. I will start to make a list of those agencies 😄
