BatteryBoi 3.0!

As you have probably noticed if you are a BatteryBoi user, there haven't been many updates recently. That is because of a few reasons, but time is the biggest factor. I have been working hard on updates to SprintDock (my primary business) and also I have been moving countries, which turns out is not easy. Who knew!? But the move is complete and now I have found some time to work on BatteryBoi so wanted to update you on what is to come!

Version 3.0

Yes, BatteryBoi v3 is very much in the works! There will be some huge updates to the UI, a bunch of highly requested features like more customization, better Bluetooth support, the ability to add connected devices to the menu-bar, and the most requested feature - charge limits! But, the list is not finalized, so please let me know what you would want to see in Version 3.0.

iOS & iPadOS App

I am working on mobile versions of BatteryBoi. The app will bi-directionally sync battery information across devices. Combine that with widgets and dynamic island integration, meaning you can keep on top of all your devices from anywhere. And yes, just like the macOS app - this will be fully open-source too. And... just like the MacOS version, the list of features is not finalized. So again, please let me know what you would want to see. This after all is a community project.

Monetization

Some eagle-eyed users on GitHub caught that I removed the donation section on the repo. There were a few reasons behind that, none of them were motivated by malice or bad intentions. 1. Only 1 person out of 21k+ downloads clicked that link; it wasn't doing much. 2. Donations (in their current state) are not enough to support the project, with the launch of v3 I will make a net loss on development with new additions, assets, etc. 3. I have been exploring other ways of monetizing BatteryBoi, and I did not want people who may donate before any changes are made thinking they were duped.

So what is changing?

Well not much, you will be glad to hear that **BatteryBoi v3 for MacOS will continue to remain Free and open source, like all versions before it.** - You're welcome!

What about the Mobile App?

The mobile app will have a yearly or lifetime subscription via in-app purchases (prices to be announced later). Anyone who has contributed Language support via Crowdin and continues to do so will get the mobile app for FREE. As will anyone who has previously donated over $10.

Version 2.5

Before the release of Version 3.0, there will be a decent-sized update (Version 2.5). This will fix crash issues for people on older OS devices, take care of some weird animation issues, and remove Python (which for some uses triggers an install dialog). This will also introduce iCloud Sync in preparation for Version 3.0. Finally, I will be adding full-sparkle integration. (if anyone wants to help with that, please reach out as I have no idea!). That's it! Let me know what you think, and thank you for your continued support! Cheers, Joe
