As PM turned maker, how many of the successful start-up founders actually did it the prescribed way?

There are ton on successful start-ups today. I wonder how many of them started with user research, market validation to come up with a product market fit. Usually we hear stories that they understood market need and just built and iterated through the product.

Same! Almost always I find that founders solved a pain point they ve had or from the domain knowledge they have.

I am too curious to know it; I recently looked up Door Dash's YC Pich video, where they said they came across 100 user interviews to find a pain point. And if any of the startups did user interviews, I would like to know how many user interviews they did to find the pain point.
