Are resume reading software commonly utilized by companies, or is this largely overblown?

I think it's not general. At medium or big companies, they usually get thousands of applications every day, so it's necessary to find candidates by ATS. But small companies, especially startups, must check resumes one by one to hire employees. But it's not right to evaluate their skill and ability through machines, especially for startups, it's not the proper way for business.
