Hi all, Out of a genuine curiosity, in terms of community building, what do you think is better, Slack or Discord, and why? Would you choose Slack over Discord and vice versa, depending on the nature of the category the community is in? Also, what are other maybe under-represented options that it's worth considering? What's your opinion?

What kind of community are you talking about, what is their profile and how do you want them to engage with you and each other?

@viktor.bresan That's a good question, Viktor - but the truth is, I don't know. It's rather a broad question to understand what cases are out there in general and what the decision process looks like here. If you have any experience that you'd like to share, please do :)

Yep, to me this is the correct question to ask. Depending on the community, it will be more natural to go for slack or for discord but there is no "one size fits all" answer. At Cycle we use Slack for our community since it is more natural for product manager to be working on slack but for every sdk more tech, I usually follow discord communities.

hm... that sounds interesting. So, for more "professional" environments, Slack is better, but for more "Hobby"-style environments - it seems like Discord is a better fit. Is this a valid perspective, @martin_delobbe1, WDYT?

I Think Discord is it

@jonzhang I agree it's one of the most widely used options, but what's your point? Why would you choose Discord over the alternatives?
Jon Zhang
@maxprilutskiy Slack does text chat better, especially for work, Discord was historically branded as a gaming tool, and it supports rich media, and Based on user habits normal user should get used to discord

@ezequiel_trivino I like your confidence here, seems like you know what you're talking about! Are there any particular reasons?
