How do social networks evolve?

I am currently curating and building a hotel in India. A crossover between backpacking hostels and soho house. A major focus of ours and something that keeps us excited is how we can turn our space into a physical social network. Facilitate interactions among guests during their free/down time. I can see this happening at every hotel with a little more effort from the particular hotel management. And in other places that aggregates and hosts people for extended periods of time. But the question is if we are headed towards the idea of physical (for the lack of a better word) social networks? Any thoughts?
