How did you finance your business?

How did you get the seed capital to start your business?

I see mostly VC-funded companies on Product Hunt (mostly YC).
But are there people who fund their businesses in other ways?

My thoughts on Cursor and the Anthropic rate limiting downtime

Just a thought on Cursor and the fact that Anthropic rate limiting basically doesn't let me do anything right now. I've been developing with Cursor and Claude-3.5-Sonnet (recently 3.7-thinking) for last few months now. I've gotten to a point where I realized 1 hour of no-Cursor coding can be done in 10 minutes or less using Cursor agent. It's absolutely amazing, let me just say that.

But because of the issues with Anthropic's endpoint, I was forced to try out gpt-4o, and other models. But nothing beats Claude-3.5(7)-Sonnet. The flow of work and bug-free features are unbeatable. I also started exploring something else -> Void IDE. It's a Y Combinator backed open-source tool just like Cursor. I also learned that Qwen-2.5-coder would be a good open source model to code, on par with Anthropic's model when it comes to coding. Combining these two things, I won't need Cursor anymore. However, I didn't go that route because Void still has some catching up to do, but they'll get there.

Impact of Claude 3.7 on Cursor usage?

Has anyone out there been seriously trying claude 3.7 in Cursor? How is it?

Do developers even need to "learn to code" anymore?

For years, "learn to code" was a golden rule for career growth. But with AI assistants writing entire functions, debugging code, and even generating full applications, is traditional coding knowledge still essential?

Will the future of development be prompt engineering rather than coding?

Will AI make deep knowledge of algorithms and system design more important, while reducing the need for syntax memorization?

If AI does the coding, what skills will become most valuable for future developers?

Best Payroll / PEO / EOR / HRIS for Distributed Teams?

Hey everyone! I m Head of Ops at Product Hunt, and I frequently get asked about the best Payroll, PEO, EOR, and HRIS solutions for distributed teams.

I m active in multiple ops communities (LinkedIn, Slack, Circle), and discussions on this topic come up repeatedly but

Two of my discussions on Product Hunt were removed. And honestly? I’m glad they were.

I support structured, high-value discussions nobody wants forums filled with spam and self-promotion. But here s the issue: understanding what qualifies as valuable.

Product Hunt s updated guidelines push for original, engaging, and non-replicable content. Makes sense. But when posts disappear without clear reasoning, it creates confusion.

  • Where s the line between sharing insights and self-promotion?

  • What defines a post as high-value in this new system?

  • Why not offer feedback instead of outright removals?

Stronger moderation is great if paired with transparency. Instead of guessing what works, clearer guidelines and examples could help everyone create better discussions.

Will Reddit be a leading platform for discussions in the future?

Unlike other social media platforms, I perceive a lower level of "centralization of power" on Reddit (such as in the comparison of X Musk, IG, FB Zuckerberg, which are starting to become politically tinged).

I'm starting to see this place as a more reliable and balanced source of information, where discussions can be held at a high level, perhaps also due to sometimes stricter moderation.

Stricter Discussions (Forums) on the Product Hunt – Bad or Good?

A few days ago I saw some posts here about:

the number of discussions is decreasing,

sometimes they are approved later,

that there is "other community growth" I don't know what was meant by that and I'm just guessing.

What's the best way to approach building an app/webapp with AI? (getting stuck on UI design)

I tend to just get an idea, and try to use AI now to get a basic framework. Then after kinda aim to get the core functionality down before moving towards UI and Design...however I often get stuck once it's on UI design as I can never get it the way I like.
As I try to add more features I kinda get lost in the code and then break other things and eventually either abandon the app or simply decide to keep it super simple at the expense of features.
Does anyone have any recs or process that could help in my app making journey? TIA!!
