About

I'm an engineer and product builder who loves turning real problems into simple software. Building products is a passion of mine outside my full-time job, and I spend my evenings and weekends talking to users, understanding their pain points, and experimenting with ideas that make everyday tasks a little easier. I'm especially drawn to products that remove friction instead of adding complexity. I believe the best software doesn't try to do everything—it solves one problem exceptionally well. Every project I launch is an opportunity to learn from real users, iterate quickly, and build something people genuinely enjoy using.

Why I Built Yet Another Calorie Tracker

Hi everyone! I'm Varun, the maker of BitePad.

I built BitePad because I was getting frustrated with calorie tracking apps. Over time they became packed with features I rarely used, and AI photo logging often guessed my meals incorrectly, which meant I still had to edit everything manually.

Why I built another calorie tracker

I'm Varun, the solo developer behind BitePad.

I started building BitePad because I realized I was spending more time correcting calorie trackers than actually tracking my meals. AI photo logging sounded great in theory, but I often found myself fixing the food, portions, or calories afterward.

So I asked a simple question: What if logging calories could be as easy as telling someone what you ate?

That idea led to BitePad a deliberately minimal calorie tracker focused on just one thing: helping you log meals quickly and accurately, without all the extra complexity.

What are the 5 tools you simply couldn't do your work without?

This could be related to your industry, or even a side project you're working on.

Here are my 5 (I couldn't function without them):

  1. Grammarly proofreading my texts, not just posts, but also client communication

  2. ChatGPT / Claude mostly brainstorming, help with copy, and summarising

  3. Figma I can put the basic graphics together quickly.

  4. Translator sounds incredibly old-school, but English is not my mother tongue

  5. Gmail and not only for communication, but also for storing ideas and sending myself email reminders for posts
