Like a lot of you, I got frustrated with web building tools that trap you in expensive monthly subscriptions, slow down under heavy server loads, and lock your data behind proprietary clouds. If you want to spin up a quick landing page or convert a design, you shouldn't have to navigate a bloated browser dashboard or worry about hosting fees spiking. That’s why I built Canvasly.

Launching Canvasly Web Studio on PH On Cotober 30th

We re launching Canvasly Web Studio on Product Hunt today, and I wanted to share a few technical and design lessons we picked up along the way for anyone else building desktop applications or local-first SaaS tools.

Why build desktop when everyone goes Web/SaaS?

When we started, almost everyone recommended building another browser-based SaaS. But testing existing builders revealed two main friction points:

Memory & Performance: Heavy canvas editors inside browser tabs often slow down, especially when managing multiple assets or pages locally.
Data Ownership & Lock-in: Users want the ability to export ultra-clean static HTML5 or lightweight WordPress layouts without paying a perpetual monthly cloud tax just to keep their pages live.
