I'm the developer behind WhereToGo at spdev labs, a small London company. It's a free Android app: people post places they love with a photo and a real pin, you follow the ones whose taste you trust, and the map shows how busy a place is right now as a live count. Nobody is named at a place unless they chose to be, there's no location history, no ads, no advertising ID.
It went live on Google Play last week and launches here on Monday.
Before it does, I'd like the objection, not the compliment. What's the first thing that would make you close it? "Empty map in my city" is the one I expect, and it's honest, so I'm curious about the second one.

See where the night is happening. WhereToGo is a live map of the places people are at right now: busy cafés, packed bars, the square everyone drifted to. Real places, real photographs, and the friends you choose, shown only where they choose to be seen. Flip to Crowded and the map lights up where people actually are. A pin reading 17 is seventeen people who are there this minute, not a rating and not a review from last year. Everyone is counted; nobody is named unless they chose to be.
