I've been questioning a product design assumption.

When people chase likes, followers and visibility, we usually blame human behavior.

But what if we're actually observing the incentives created by the interface?

As product builders, we shape behavior through design choices.

If we removed public metrics, persistent identities and permanent content, do you think user behavior would meaningfully change?

Are permanent social identities becoming a design assumption?

I've been thinking about something while building software.

Almost every modern social platform shares the same ideas:

  • Permanent profiles.

  • Followers.

  • Public popularity metrics.

  • Infinite content history.

  • Algorithms optimized for engagement.

We've become so used to these patterns that they feel inevitable.
