What gamification mechanics actually motivate you to keep habits?

I built SnakeStreak because standard checklists made me bored, and I realized I needed a "consequence" (a virtual pet snake) to stay consistent. I m currently planning the next evolution tier for the snakes and want to know what works for you all.

Do you prefer:

  1. Strict/Brutal: Losing progress/pet if you miss one day?

  2. Forgiving: Having "Revival" items or streaks that don't reset immediately?

  3. Social: Competing against friends on a leaderboard?
