What actually happened the one time you tried to take a full day off?

I tried it once, turned my phone off for a full Saturday. By Monday there were two client emails nobody had answered, a mix up at the other location that only got caught when a customer complained, and a staff scheduling gap nobody noticed until the shift already started. None of it was a disaster on its own. It was just the sum of a dozen small things I usually catch by being everywhere at once. Curious if anyone here has actually pulled off a real day off from a service or multi location business, and what had to be true for it to work.

The three kinds of decisions that actually need a founder, and the ones that do not

After running a software company, a care home, and a cafe at the same time, I noticed most of what landed on my desk did not actually need me, it needed someone to just decide and move on. The decisions that did need me were almost always the same shape, something touching money leaving the business, a client relationship at risk, or a choice with no clean precedent yet to fall back on. Everything else was noise dressed up as urgency because it happened to reach me first.

What is your early warning sign that a small problem is about to become a big one?

Every business I have run has had a version of the same warning sign. A customer complaint that repeats instead of a one time thing. A number that drifts slightly off for a few weeks in a row. A task that keeps getting rescheduled instead of finished. None of those look urgent on the day they happen. They only look obvious in hindsight, once they have already turned into something bigger. Curious what your early warning sign looks like, the thing that in hindsight was always the tell, but did not feel like one at the time.
