Tomorrow we launch the native iPhone app, including Apple Watch session tracking. Right now it counts waves ridden vs. attempts, time paddling, time waiting and more. Surfers and kiters: what else would you want your watch to tell you after a session? Top speed? Wave length? How long you spent getting caught inside?
Our first launch was the Wavind web app. This launch is the new native iPhone app, built from scratch for iOS rather than wrapping the website, with an Apple Watch app. The watch records surf and wind sessions by GPS, and Wavind turns the track into a map plus waves ridden, attempts, paddling and waiting time. It also adds push alerts when your spots look good and in-app Pro through the App Store. New platform, new device, new use case: on the water, not just planning at home.
The other one gives you every model, chart, gust, wave, tide, and probability.
While building Wavind, I keep coming back to this balance. Experienced riders often want all the details. Others just want to know whether it s worth packing their gear and heading out.
