In a world where AI is making everything cheaper, Fireflies remain one of the most limited and expensive ones out there. The free plan is not generous at all; it's very cheap in what they offer. Here's a few things I do not like about Fireflies and why I left to use Fanthom instead.
1. Fireflies has a lot of limitations when it comes to AI summaries and Recording Meetings. 800 minutes limit and no option to auto-delete old meetings. So when you reach the limit, you have to go and manually delete the meetings to get transcripts.
2. Even though the meetings and recordings are supposed to be yours (Intellectual Property), Fireflies make you pay to download your own recording. Lame.
3. AI summaries are limited.
4. You can't download your transcripts.
5. You can't connect multiple calendars to your Fireflies account. You have to create separate account if you want to manage meeting for 2+ calendars.
6. You need to upgrade to get summaries sometimes. Still very confusing, but I do not get summaries for most of my meeting in a given month. Just a transcript cause apparently there's a limit on AI meetings. So if it's not doing notes and just transcribing, that I can do with the free version of GPT.
7- Fireflies used to be cool, but its falling behind because of their greed to monetize every single feature. In today's market, you need to have a generous free tier to stay competitive. If you don't understand that AI will make everything cheaper, you don't understand AI yet. It one of the biggest deflationary technologies in the history of humans.
8- Fanthom is 100x more generous with their free tier. I recommend you check them out. For small companies or solopreneurs who are just getting their business up and running, you get what you need: Record a meeting, get the video too, get the transcript, free downloads, free AI summaries, and key points. Solopreneurs and small companies that are getting started do not have the budget to spend on apps, and a good free tier with amazing features just makes sure that when that company has the budget, they will stay loyal. At least I do that. I stay loyal to the apps with the best experience and customer service, and values. Even if there are better apps out there with more complex features, I stay with the companies that share in my values and helped get where I'm at.
9- Stay away from greedy companies that leverage AI to sell you subpar services. Might as well just record the meeting with Apple Voice Notes and ask GPT to make a summary, instead of Fireflies.
10- Unless they make changes, fireflies have fallen behind in development, and it feels like an AI app from 2022. Their development process is slow compared to others. Which is embarrassing in the age of AI. Ship faster.
Those are my thoughts on why, if you're reading this, you should avoid fireflies. In 2025, there will be a better a more powerful alternative in the market.
Fireflies is great if you're living in 2023.

First I have to say, that being Open Source makes Cal.com 100x superior to anything on the market. And second, the platform is beautiful, sleek, and super intuitive. I got up and running in less than 5 minutes. I signed up, and 3-5 minutes later I was sending my link already. I feel that I found the right app for the next decade. Keep up the good work guys.
