I build private, on-device iPhone apps.

About

I build iPhone apps, mostly small and mostly opinionated about data. My current one is Budgetese: it turns bank statement PDFs into a clear picture of your spending, entirely on-device. No account, no bank login, no servers — it makes zero network requests, which turned out to be the interesting constraint rather than a limitation. Most of the work went into the parser. Bank statement PDFs are genuinely hostile — every bank lays them out differently, and a misread column silently turns money in into money out. It reads them geometrically and then checks its own arithmetic against the totals printed on the statement, so it refuses rather than guesses. Happy to talk about on-device software, PDF parsing, or why so much of personal finance insists on holding your credentials.

Budgeting - Budgeting that reads your statement, not your bank login

Budgetese turns bank statement PDFs into a clear picture of your spending entirely on your iPhone. No account, no bank login, no servers. It makes zero network requests. It even checks its own maths against the totals printed on your statement.
