An Accidental Choice, a Butterfly Effect, and the Future of AI Aesthetics

Hey everyone,

I came across a fascinating story this week that I wanted to discuss. It started when @adamwathan , the co-founder of @Tailwind CSS , joked on X that his decision to make every button bg-indigo-500 five years ago seems to have caused every AI-generated UI on earth to default to a shade of purple.

What are your reasons for using Product Hunt??

A year ago, while working at a startup, my senior introduced me to Product Hunt when they announced we d be launching a new feature, and I was tasked with managing the launch activities.

The next two months were a whirlwind, joining communities, connecting with folks on LinkedIn, and hustling to spread the word. Our hard work paid off when we snagged the #4 Product of the Day spot! That day, the whole team was glued to a Teams call from noon until 9 PM, everyone doing their part to chase upvotes. It was equal parts thrilling and exhausting, but so much fun.

Now, a year later I just keep an eye on new Product Hunt launches, upvoting the ones that catch my interest or when someone reaches out to me on LinkedIn.

🚨 PANIC MODE: ACTIVATED 🚨

Someone probably left the Product Hunt door open and I accidentally wandered in.

Now I m surrounded by serial launchers, genius builders, and people who casually say I shipped 3 products before breakfast.

Do you use Product Hunt more/less during summer, weekends or holidays?

I'm doing a little research on the traffic on this platform. Many people ask when it's a good idea to launch a product on Product Hunt.

I'd like to know your perspective on how you spend your time here during specific seasons (weekends, holidays, summer).

Show your 404 page (yes, really)

Most people phone it in on their 404 page. Some of you didn t. If yours has a little personality or went completely off the rails drop it here. Let s see who actually tried.

Here's ours! It cycles through different team member's pets because who doesn't love pets?

Hello PH community,

I had joined PH for a long time now but haven't been using it that much due to my busy schedule. I have been reading through products and also commenting on some I see prospects in before now though.

Stricter Discussions (Forums) on the Product Hunt – Bad or Good?

A few days ago I saw some posts here about:

the number of discussions is decreasing,

sometimes they are approved later,

that there is "other community growth" I don't know what was meant by that and I'm just guessing.

What's your Storytelling technique? I found a GREAT one!

Hi PHers, happy Monday!

HEAR THIS - A few days ago, I was coding some stuff on my desk, and then as usual, I went on Youtube :P I was getting a brain fog from all the random stuff there, lol, but then I came across this nerdy dude from Europe with a psychedelic tshirt on, saying he got story telling figured out. I was like, FINALLY im gonna be able to get potential users to engage with my stuff. I took a coffee sip, ate my peanut butter and started watching the video. I need to admit...the things that guy said, and the examples he gave got me HOOKED.

Build an audience first, or launch and grow later?

This is probably one of the most debated topics in the startup world: Should you build an audience before you launch, or is it better to launch first and grow your audience afterward? I ve seen both approaches work, but each comes with its own set of challenges and rewards. - Building an audience first means you're creating buzz, validating your idea, and nurturing a community of early adopters who are invested in your success. But it takes time, patience, and a lot of effort to keep the momentum going before you even have a product to show. - Launching first lets you hit the ground running, gather real-world feedback, and iterate quickly. But without an existing audience, you might struggle to get those initial users and traction. So, indulge me: Which approach did you take or are you considering taking (those who haven't launched yet)? - Did you build an audience before launching your product, or did you launch and then focus on growth? - What worked (or didn't work) for you? - If you could go back, would you do it differently? Share your story with us so we can all learn from each other. There's someone here who could benefit from your experience. ----- P.S: If you're a growth-stage founder struggling with churn or stagnant customer acquisition (usually because of poor positioning and messaging), I'd love to help. I specialize in crafting impactful marketing strategies tailored specifically to your product so you can start seeing the results you deserve. Connect with me on LinkedIn today. Does the time of posting the PH forums matter?

Since discussions have been transformed into forums, we can see a significant reduction in the number of discussions and their categories. It is easier to be seen and they are better moderated.

So does it depend on what time I publish the discussion?

It depends.

How does 'streaks' help?

I've been on PH since 2015. But this question remains in my mind: What's the value of streaks? Does it help with your K-points? Or credibility?

Why Am I Not Loving Claude?

I am not a developer. I am a sales/business guy who gets an obscene amount of value out of ChatGPT. It remembers who I am, seems to give me better answers than Claude, and I have the impression that it s a leading model, whereas Claude is top 10 maybe top five, but not top three. With that said, all I hear online is that Claude is better on all fronts. It s better for coding, more ethical, and will last longer than ChatGPT. I even hear it has better models. If that s the case, why do I feel like it pales in comparison to my ChatGPT experience? Why does my own experience not align with the broader appeal I see for Claude every day? Is it because I don't code or am I just using it poorly?

Anyone else experiencing this issue on the PH mobile app?

Lately, I ve noticed that some of my replies to discussions don t show up on the mobile app meaning no responses, no engagement, nothing. At first, I thought it was just a mobile issue, so I switched to desktop. But even here, it s the same thing. Is this happening to anyone else, or is it just me? Would love to know if others are facing this too. I really want to see (and be seen in) discussions!
