I believe there are ways to categorize and prioritize features, but it can definitely be complicated. One method you can use is to numerically quantify the "importance" of the feature (i.e. How much of a game changer would this one feature be to your users?) against the difficulty, time, or cost to implement. Once you've got that number, it's more straightforward to compare different features....

This is gonna sound like a stupid answer, but honestly: just ask. People who are ahead of you have often been in your shoes, and even if they can't offer any tangible help, many will part with very good advice. The worst thing they can tell you is "no," so I say just go for it! I think you'll find that people are more generous than you expect.

I think email has already graduated to the "most formal" method of digital communication. I'm not sure that'll ever be replaced as the most formal, but hey, who knows?
