I’ve spent the last 15 years building consumer financial products and launching two neobanks. A big theme in my work has always been taking complicated systems and making them feel simple for the person using them. A few years ago, I went from being single in San Diego to living with my partner and four stepdaughters. Since then, I’ve been drinking from the firehose trying to learn how families operate, and I have to say, it is insane. So naturally, I decided to fix it. I’m a product person who can now build. The changes in AI and development tools mean I can take something that frustrates me, turn it into a working product, put it in front of real people, and iterate quickly. That’s how Smitty started.
