Z Tales writes and illustrates a bedtime story where your child is the hero — their name, their look, their age's reading level, and a lesson you pick (kindness, courage, sleeping in their own bed). Text lands in ~30 seconds, watercolor art paints in behind it, and it can narrate itself over a lullaby. No account needed to try. Premium adds narration, interactive choose-your-path stories, music, and printable PDF keepsakes — and every story ends calm, by design, to actually help kids wind down.
Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Damon, a solo developer, and I built Z Tales.
The premise: the bedtime stories kids love most are the ones where they're the hero. Z Tales writes and illustrates one on the spot — give it a name, an age, a look, and a lesson worth learning, and ~30 seconds later there's a story with watercolor illustrations that can read itself aloud over a lullaby.
A few things I obsessed over:
• Every story ends calm — the prompt hard-requires gentle, sleepy endings. The goal is winding down, not more screen time (Premium can print any story as a PDF to read off-screen).
• Interactive stories let the kid choose the path. While they decide, I generate both branches in the background so the page turn is instant.
• Safety first: every input runs through moderation, and stories are private unless a parent chooses to share one.
It's early and I'm building solo, so I'd love blunt feedback — especially what feels magical vs. gimmicky. Free tier is a story a night, no account needed. Happy to answer anything about the build (Next.js + Supabase + Stripe + a lot of prompt tuning).

honestly love that no account is needed to try, super low friction. one thing that would honestly push this over the edge for me though, is letting parents save a list of like 5-10 "favorite lessons" or themes so they could quickly pick from them at story time instead of scrolling or thinking of one each night when they're already half asleep. would make bedtime even smoother.
@barangm2r I like that. There is a way to “save your child’s info” (name, age, description) to speed that process, and a “surprise me” button, but I’ll add another way to make an instant story. Thank you for taking the time to submit your feedback.
honestly this looks really lovely, especially the calm ending part since that's always the hardest. one thing I'd love as an option is a way to set a hard bedtime cap so the story wraps up before a specific time, like if you start it at 8 the app gently trims length to finish by 8:20. right now I'm guessing it just estimates based on reading level but actual parents need it tied to a clock.
@minagetj interesting! There is an option of selecting how long the story is if you make an account (short, medium, long) I’ll see what it looks like how the program can extend / shorten based off of time. Thanks for the feedback! Super glad you liked it.
One thing I'd love to see is a "sibling mode" where you can feature two or three of my kids together in the same story. Mine always argue about whose turn it is, and sharing a single adventure where they both get to be heroes would solve a whole lot of bedtime negotiations in our house.

Tried it with my niece's name and the watercolor art came out way prettier than I expected for something generated in 30 seconds. The calm ending actually worked, she was out within ten minutes.

The watercolor art layering in behind the text as you read feels like such a thoughtful touch, turning the page into something gentle and alive instead of a static PDF.
@uursargzmeygxp thank you. The interface of the storyteller is where I spent the most time fine tuning, especially knowing that different screen sizes would be interacting with the viewer.
