XREAL Aura are wired XR glasses and, per Google, the first to run Android XR, Google’s XR platform, with Gemini built in.
Problem: Your laptop screen is small, a phone is awkward for long videos, and most glasses that put a screen in front of you stay a screen-mirroring accessory. They don’t run their own apps or have an assistant that sees what you see.
Solution: Aura puts apps in your view through transparent lenses. A compute puck on a cable holds the battery and a Snapdragon Reality Elite chip, so the glasses stay light. Google says they weigh under 95 grams and have a 70 degree field of view.
What makes it different: It runs Android XR itself, so you get Google Play apps and Gemini, instead of just showing another device’s screen. Gemini can see what’s in front of you and on your screen, for things like tidying windows, brainstorming and game hints. Google describes Gemini features as experimental.
Key features:
Several resizable app windows at once
Wired Mirroring puts a laptop in a window over USB-C, with no software to install
Dimmable lenses (five levels, per XREAL’s store) for a more private screen
Spatial view converts videos, photos and games to 3D
Android games from Google Play, or streamed from a PC or handheld
150+ XR apps on Google Play plus thousands of mobile and tablet games, per Google
Prescription lens frame, and two sizes to fit your face (M and L)
Who it’s for: People who want a large, private screen for work, movies and games without carrying a headset, and early adopters who want to try Android XR first.
Availability and pricing: Orders opened October 28 in the U.S., Canada and Korea, and Japan opens November 2. The launch price is $1,099 through the end of the year (regular $1,279). Shipping starts mid-November. Some memory configurations show as sold out right now.
