Sharing the XiaoZhi AI Chatbot Platform. Its recent rapid growth and focus on open source (MIT license), low cost, and accessibility really remind me of that classic Raspberry Pi spirit – making powerful tech available for everyone to build with.
Based on affordable ESP32 boards, it provides the firmware and platform for anyone, even beginners, to create their own voice-interactive AI companions connecting to various LLMs and TTS services. You might have seen it explode online recently; its growth has been fueled by hobbyists and DIY builders sharing their creations.
This kind of accessible, open foundation truly feels like it could unlock a huge wave of creativity and experimentation in AI hardware, much like the Pi did for computing. And we're already seeing the trend: countless AI chatbot hardware projects based on this open platform are popping up (you could find many on XiaoZhi's GitHub page), and key components are reportedly even facing shortages due to the demand.
