I built this because I got stuck while editing a research abstract.

I had changed a few words, opened the file in GitHub Desktop, and the entire paragraph turned solid red. I couldn’t see which words had actually changed. I searched for a simple online tool that would highlight only the changed words… and couldn’t find one that worked the way I needed. The few that existed were limited or buggy.

So I made a small tool just for myself: paste the old text and the new text, and it highlights the differences word by word.

After using it a few times I thought — why keep this private? Other people editing papers, docs, or code must hit the same problem.

That’s how Word-by-Word Diff Checker ended up here.

It’s completely free, runs fully in your browser (nothing is uploaded), and does one thing well.
