Whimzy is a party game app built by a solo developer who wanted an alternative to the dark, overly-sexual party apps with predatory pricing. What's different: - Warm retro 70s aesthetic (no dark, moody UI) - Hand-illustrated by indie artist Huxmay (zero AI) - Works from family game night to wild parties - Built accessible so everyone can enjoy comfortably - Optional one-time purchases, no subscriptions - All modes with zero paywalls: Never Have I Ever, Would You Rather, Most Likely To, etc.
Hey Product Hunt! I'm Jennyfer, solo dev and founder of Good Folk Digital.
I built Whimzy because I was tired of party game apps that either charge $10/month subscriptions or blast you with ads every 30 seconds. I wanted something people would actually own.
The technical approach: I built native versions for both iOS (SwiftUI) and Android (Kotlin) rather than using a cross-platform framework. This gave me full control over IAP, authentication, and platform-specific features while keeping the UI consistent across both.
The design choice: Every other party app goes for dark, moody, overly-sexualized vibes with zero customization. I wanted something warm and human. Characters illustrated by indie artist Huxmay, all product design by me - no AI generation anywhere.
The result: No subscriptions. No account required. Just download and play. All game modes free, optional themed decks to unlock.
