Every flight has a better side. Sometimes it's the sunrise. Sometimes it's mountains, coastlines, or city skylines. Most people rely on forum guesses. We calculate it. Enter your origin, destination, date, and departure time. We model your route, calculate the sun's position, and compare it against 15,000+ landmarks. Get a left or right seat recommendation for takeoff, cruise, and landing. Works worldwide. Instant. Free.=

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I built whichsidetosit to answer a question I kept Googling before every flight: Which side should I sit on?
The answers online are usually guesses. But the problem is actually computable. The sun follows astronomy, flight paths follow geometry, and landmarks don't move.
So I built a system that:
✈️ Models your great-circle flight path
🕐 Timestamps it with real timezone and DST data
☀️ Calculates the sun's position throughout the journey
🏔️ Checks 15,000+ mountains, coastlines, cities, waterfalls, and other landmarks against your heading
🌃 Adjusts for day and night, including city lights after dark
The result is a simple left or right recommendation, broken down by takeoff, cruise, and landing. It works for any airport in the world, is instant, and completely free.
It's not magic. Flights can deviate for weather or air traffic, and no one can predict cloud cover. Think of it as a data-driven recommendation, not a guarantee. The full methodology is documented on the site.
I'd love your feedback. If you spot an incorrect recommendation or a landmark that's missing on a route you know well, let me know. That's how it gets better.
What's the best thing you've ever seen from a window seat? 🪟
