Hey Product Hunters,
I made WhereToTrek.com as a side hobby project, to search and explore various trekking and hiking destinations around the globe.
This is heavily inspired by @levelsio and his philosophy of building small projects and launching on your own (without a big team). I learnt web development and Rails in 6 months to launch this as a side project. Also a big thanks to @AndreyAzimov and his whentosurf.co which was the inspiration behind the name
The Problem: No single repository of treks and hikes, most of it is provided by travel agencies and they only display the treks they sell. There is a lack of crowdsourced material by trekkers, mostly about the small treks which anyone can do without a booking agency
The Solution: One portal to capture every important thing about any trek or hike - images, how to reach, nearest airport, blogs by other people, weather conditions, map, difficulty level and other details. Also, some treks are organised by the agencies, so posting that information along with the estimated cost for people to plan their treks.
All the current information in picked up from the internet by my robots (some of it is manual which I’ll automate later), and I plan to open this portal to everyone so that people can upload information about the treks and hikes they have done so that others can benefit from this information.
Let me know what you guys think :)
