Hey Product Hunt š
I built WhatsRunning because everyone non-technical in my life opens Task Manager, sees 200 processes called svchost.exe / dwm.exe / dllhost.exe, and has no idea what any of them are.
WhatsRunning is a free, open-source Windows process inspector that explains every running process in plain English: what it does, who published it, why it's running, and whether you can safely close it.
š Plain-English description for every process ā curated database of ~280 common Windows binaries, smart synthesis for the rest.
ā ļø Risk badges that explain themselves ā every "Suspicious" flag tells you the specific reason.
ā” Nothing in the background ā open the app, click Scan, see results, close it. No telemetry, no analytics.
š ļø Five quick actions per process ā open location, copy path, search online, VirusTotal hash lookup, end process.
š MIT-licensed ā full source on GitHub.
It's not an antivirus and isn't trying to be one. Think of it as a translator between Task Manager and a normal person.
Would love your feedback and bug reports!
